OPEN CALL FOR 2021 / RIMINI & ONLINE
WMF is committed to promoting equality and inclusion in tech. For this reason, every year we shine a spotlight on inspiring stories that emphasise the importance of diversity in the workplace. At the last edition, we had the privilege of hosting three successful female speakers on our main stage: system operations engineer Chiara Cocchiara, computer scientist Melanie Rieback and young Luisa Rizzo, champion of drone racing.
Women’s underrepresentation in technology and science constitutes a serious concern in our society. In 2018, the European Commission’s study ‘Women in the Digital Age’ revealed that the gap between men and women’s participation in the digital sector has grown. The number of men with ICT-related studies is four times higher than the number of women and the gap becomes even bigger when looking at the percentage of women who go on to pursue a career in ICT.
We aim to build a more inclusive tech industry and highlight female contribution to the development of technology. This is why, in 2020, we decided to launch the call for ‘Women in Tech’, encouraging women to share their experience in tech with us.
The call for WMF2020 is now closed, but if you want to share your experience with us, you can apply now to speak at WMF2021.
