Discover the host city of WMF2020

Explore the city!

Since 2015, the WMF has been hosted by the city of Rimini, a vibrant and international city that successfully combines tradition and innovation. Make the most out of your festival experience and give yourself time to wonder around the city!

THE MALATESTA TEMPLE

The Malatesta Temple is one of the most important historical attractions of the city, a place that needs to be included in every tourist tour of the town. Although left unfinished, the cathedral is one of the most beautiful examples of the early Renaissance in Italy. The building, commissioned by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta to celebrate his family, saw the participation of some of the most famous Italian artists of that time. The external structure was designed by Leon Battista Alberti, while the artworks kept inside were realised by Piero della Francesca, Giotto, Giorgio Vasari and Agostino di Duccio.

ROMAN RIMINI

The historic center of Rimini is full of well preserved Roman ruins. You can start discovering ancient Roman Rimini stopping by Arco di Augusto, the oldest surviving Roman archway and symbol of the city. Moving forward to the city center, you will reach Domus Del Chirurgo, the remains of an ancient Roman house which is now an important archeological complex. To conclude, visit Ponte Tiberio, an imposing bridge erected over the river Marecchia.

FELLINIAN ITINERARY

Rimini is the hometown of the Italian film director Federico Fellini. Although he never shot a film here, the city deeply influenced his artistic imaginary. If you want to get to know Italy's most celebrated filmmaker, you should visit the historic quarter of Borgo San Giuliano, one of Fellini’s favourite places. Take a stroll in this district to admire plenty of wall paintings depicting scenes and characters from Fellini’s movies.

ITALY IN MINIATURE

Located in Viserba di Rimini, Italy in Miniature is an exciting theme park dedicated to Italy and its artistic wonders. The parks offers a path of more than 200 scale reproductions of Italian famous landmarks, where both adults and kids can discover Italy and feel like giants among its architectural treasures.

THE BEAUTY OF ROMAGNA

The hinterland of Romagna offers many fascinating tourist itineraries, with medieval villages, artistic cities and other hidden gems. Visit the mysterious Montebello Castle and learn about the legend of Azzurrina’s ghost, have a stroll in the picturesque streets of medieval Gradara or discover the historic village of Santarcangelo. Finally, have a day trip outside Rimini to discover the mosaics of Ravenna or the ancient Republic of San Marino.

THE RIVIERA OF RIMINI

When talking about Rimini, it is almost impossible not to think about the sandy beaches, the sunny riviera and its lively nightlife. For those who love to party, there are lots of opportunities to enjoy the fun of the Riviera Romagnola: spend the evening in trendy Milano Marittima, crowded with street bars and nightclubs or enjoy beach parties in Marina di Ravenna or Riccione (Samsara Beach).

PIADINA ROMAGNOLA

You cannot leave Rimini without tasting one of Romagna’s most famous dishes: the traditional piadina. Its preparation varies greatly according to the areas, in Rimini piadina is famous for being thinner than in the other cities of Romagna. Being it a typical street food, it is easy to find artisan kiosks that serve piadina all around the town. Try combining it with ham and squacquerone cheese.

SHOPPING MALL

As for indoor activities, Rimini offers many alternatives. Those who enjoy going shopping will certainly love Le Befane Shopping Centre. With more than 130 shops, restaurants and a multiplex cinema, Le Befane Shopping Centre is the ideal place to spend the afternoon with friends.
